After five successful years in Amsterdam, GLUE now arrives in Utrecht. The first edition of this design route runs for three days in May, connecting designers, architects, brands and a design-minded audience.
As a design enthusiast, GLUE Utrecht feels like discovering the creative side of the Domstad — which I also call Nijntje’s home. The programme brings together a broad mix of disciplines, often in unexpected settings: secret courtyards, or showrooms just below canal level.

The secret garden at Cocoon Collectables, View from home Mies Interieur.
Spread over 29 locations, the trail moves through private homes, studios, concept stores and even gardens. There are more than 70 names to note, from established brands to emerging talents. Modular systems by Swiss modular furniture brand USM Haller, refined porcelain objects by Inge Simonis, a bold yellow sculpture by Dave van Rossum, soft ceramic forms by Françoise Jeffrey — all part of the mix.
Highlights include the tranquil, modern Japanese-style garden at Cocoon Collectables and the carefully considered renovation by Mies Interieur. Her home feels curated minimalistic. In between all the inspiration, Keen Coffee serves a matcha latte or a coffee tasting menu — a welcome moment to pause.

My favourite? Founders Sander van Eyck and Freerk Mandema of Cocoon Collectables create a uniquely personal space in Utrecht, opened especially for this occasion. Their bold style balances modern pieces with mid-century classics and shows how a house can both work and feel. A true living space, not just a showplace. Their second showroom, Cocoon House, located in the former post office in Hilversum, extends that world even further with pre-loved design from the 1950s to the ’80s and their own take on interior design.
