CHANGE in De Kring: One Night, One Poster

No two CHANGE posters look alike. A pair of penguins, a spinning record, vintage dance photography: between 2012 and 2017, each CHANGE dance night at Amsterdam’s De Kring came with a new image.

Multidisciplinary artist and DJ Dimitri Madimin, aka DJ Dim Browski, and art curator Maarten Bertheux organised the evenings with a musical selection ranging from Afrobeat and cumbia to Balkan beats, salsa and hip-hop. Fela Kuti could turn up in the mix. DJs shared the night with VJs, who added live visuals to the music.

Madimin and Bertheux also created the posters. There is no obvious formula, from photography and illustration to graphic experiments, record sleeves and bold typography. All posters predate generative AI. A different image, typeface, composition or concept for each edition.

More than a decade later, the posters are back at De Kring for a couple of months. Those Friday nights are over, but their images are on the walls.
