Fragrance Notes: Première Peau

Première Peau

The shape immediately caught my eye. Suspended within the outer layer of hand-blown glass sits a rounded form inspired by the traditional Chinese hulu, a double-gourd shape associated for centuries with good fortune, remedies and longevity.

The reference is not accidental. Première Peau founder Pierre Mergui studied in Shanghai. Years later, the traditional hulu form became part of the bottle design for his Parisian fragrance house. Produced by specialist glassmakers in the Oise, each double-walled borosilicate bottle is blown by hand. Small variations make every piece unique.

French haute perfumery, French glassmaking and a form with centuries of Chinese symbolism. Sometimes a bottle tells you something before you have even smelled what is inside.
