Look from the new autumn/winter collection of Hul le Kes

Fashion is best appreciated up close.

During a presentation of the latest Hul le Kes collection, I found myself looking almost as much at the inside of the garments as the outside. French seams, carefully finished interiors and thoughtful construction reveal the attention given to each piece. Even a small blue stitch at the back has become a recognisable signature.

One standout is a car coat created from repurposed tent fabric. Material once destined for the outdoors is given a new life as outerwear. Elsewhere, a beautifully cut wool coat, patchwork trousers and maxi skirts demonstrate the strength of the Arnhem-based label. No two pieces are exactly alike. Variations in material, texture and finish make each garment unique.

What appeals to me most is the possibility of creating highly personal pieces. One client asked the atelier to turn her mother’s clothing into a patchwork blouse. A beautiful way of keeping memories close. I can easily imagine commissioning a piece like that myself.

Details of the new Hul le Kes collection

Founded by Sjaak Hullekes and Sebastiaan Kramer, the label Hul le Kes combines traditional techniques with a strong focus on reuse and social impact. Existing materials are transformed into clothing with character, produced locally in the Netherlands through their own ateliers and social initiatives. Craftsmanship, storytelling, repair, gender fluidity and wearability are all part of the same conversation.

The recent award of the Cultuurfonds Mode Stipendium 2026 is a well-deserved recognition of the work Hullekes and Kramer have built over the years. The award acknowledges not only their creative development, but also their distinctive social and circular vision for fashion.
