Long before rice water entered the world of beauty, I remember visiting a small village in China. Many of the women had remarkably thick and shiny hair. Curious about their routine, I asked how they cared for it. Their answer was simple. Rice water. One woman even showed me how the ritual was passed on from generation to generation.
Years later, one of the oldest beauty traditions has found its way into a new generation of haircare. After the success of La Bonne Brosse, founders Pauline Laurent and Flore Des Robert introduce Cair, a French haircare brand. The gradient glass bottles are refillable. The routine consists of three steps: treat, cleanse and protect. Rice water, bamboo water and grape water sit at the heart of the collection, joined by fermented ingredients, vitamins, hyaluronic acid and caffeine.

What I particularly like is the idea that healthy hair begins with healthy roots. In many ways, it reminds me of the women I met years ago in China. Beauty rituals that have existed for generations sometimes find their way back in unexpected ways.
