More colour: Studio RENS
I’ve always loved Studio RENS and their experimental approach to colour. During Dutch Design Week, Renee Mennen and Stefanie van Keijsteren present their new work, CANVAS – Surface of Sleep, at their studio on Strijp-R in Eindhoven, in collaboration with Auping. Beautiful compositions of colour on cotton, this time for the bed.
Displayed as an art installation, the large colour fields, with their subtle ton-sur-ton shifts, remind me a little of Mark Rothko, one of my favourite artists. Later, at Piet Hein Eek’s store, I come across the designs again, displayed both as artworks and as bed linen.
There is something uplifting about bringing this much colour into the bedroom. Why should art only hang on the wall when you can enjoy it on your bed? Almost like wearable art, but for the bedroom.
